US, Canadian and Australian passport holders need a Brazilian eVisa. It is applied for online, costs around 80 US dollars, and takes about five working days to come back. Do it as soon as you book, not the week before you fly.
Rua das Pedras is six hundred metres of pedestrian street along the seafront. Quiet by day, then the centre of the peninsula's nightlife after dark. Bars, galleries, ice cream, and clubs that run late.
Búzios takes food seriously. Bar do Zé and Fishbone for seafood, Sushigeriba for Japanese, Altto for Italian, 74 Osteria for a tasting menu on the sea, Chez Pitu down on the sand.
The villa sits above Geribá. Two kilometres of white sand, kiosks the length of it, surfable waves at one end and paddleboards for hire. It is the beach at the bottom of your hill.
Praia Rosa, a short ride around the headland, where the sand really does run pink at the waterline. Quiet, shallow and clear, and most people who come to Búzios never find it.
Ferradura is a horseshoe bay a few minutes away, flat and calm, good for swimming and snorkelling. João Fernandes has the clearest water of any of them.
Búzios is a resort town, not a city. It is where Rio goes on holiday. Espresso, card machines, English on menus, and a villa rated 4.91 by the people who have stayed in it.
